Addressıng of Invasıve Alıen Specıes Threats ın Terrestrıal Areas and Inland Waters ın Turkey

Activity on Public Awareness with Special Focus on Eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) 10 June 2022, Denizli

In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters in Turkey Project” funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the public awareness activities under Activity 4.2 planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, the third of them as “Public Awareness Activity with Special Focus on Eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki)” was held on 10 June 2022 in Denizli.

Eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) Species Specific Public Awareness Activity program carried out under the leadership of the project experts, with the contributions of the project executive unit members representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the technical assistance team, to inform and aware target student groups about the species.

The activity which took place with the participation of approximately 100 people as target elementary education and high school student groups in Başmakçı Multi-Program Anatolian High School in order to raise awareness about Eastern mosquitofish species.

Within the scope of the event, the introduction of the Eastern mosquitofish species, its general distribution and its effects on the ecosystem in the region were discussed.
