Addressıng of Invasıve Alıen Specıes Threats ın Terrestrıal Areas and Inland Waters ın Turkey

Activity on Public Awareness with Special Focus on Gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) 7 July 2022, Afyonkarahisar

In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters in Turkey Project” funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the public awareness activities under Activity 4.2 planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, the fourth of them as “Public Awareness Activity with Special Focus on Gibel carp (Carassius gibelio)” was held on 7 July 2022 in Afyonkarahisar.

Gibel carp (Carassius gibelio) Species Specific Public Awareness Activity program carried out under the leadership of the project experts, with the contributions of the project team members representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the technical assistance team, to inform and aware target student groups about the species.

The activity which took place with the contributions of Afyonkarahisar Municipality staff that the participation of approximately 100 people as village people in It was realized in the town square with the aim of raising awareness of the target local people about the Gibel carp species. 

Within the scope of the event, the introduction of the Gibel carp species, its general distribution and its effects on the ecosystem were discussed.
