In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters in Turkey Project” (TERIAS) funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the public awareness expanding activities under Activity 4.2 planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, the second of them as “Public Awareness Activity with Special Focus on Nutria (Myocastor coypus)” was held on 3 June 2022 in Edirne.
Nutria (Myocastor coypus) Species Specific Public Awareness Activity program carried out under the leadership of the project experts, with the contributions of the project executive unit members representing the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks and the technical assistance team, to inform and aware target group about the species.
The activity which took place with the participation of approximately 120 target group of people as farmers, fishermen and local people in the pilot area was included in the program held in in Yenikarpuzlu Town, where the the pilot area is located in order to raise awareness about Nutria species.
Within the scope of the event, the introduction of the Nutria species, its distribution and its effects on the ecosystem in the pilot area were discussed.
