In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters Project in Turkey” funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the forth of the trainings planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, Invasive Alien Species Control and Management with Special Focus on Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) was held between 25 – 26 October 2021 in Ankara.
About 80 participants from different regional directorates of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, other relevant Directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Interior, zoos, NGOs, universities, public institutions of local municipalities/provinces for target areas and project expertsparticipated to the training.
Prof. Dr. Ali Serhan Tarkan, Deputy Team Leader and Head of Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University, Prof. Dr. Özgür Emiroğlu, TERIAS Project Silver Gibel Carp(Carassius gibelio) Species Expert, Eskişehir Osmangazi University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiraz Erciyas Yavuz, Samsun Ondokuz Mayıs University, Ornithology Research Center and TERIAS Project Rose-ringed Parakeet(Psittacula krameri) Species Expert acted as trainers.
The trainers provided knowledge on invasive alien species in general, their prevention, monitoring, control, and management and information in particularly on control and management on Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri). Group discussion, case studies were carried out and field visit was conducted to the pilot area; Kurtuluş Park for observing Rose-ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri).
