In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters Project in Turkey” funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the fifth of the trainings planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, Invasive Alien Species Control and Management with Special Focus on Red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) was held between 1 – 2 November 2021 in Antalya.
Approximately, 80 participants from different regional directorates of the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, other relevant Directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Interior, NGOs, universities, public institutions of local municipalities/provinces for target areas (parks and gardens, zoos, wildlife/wildlife park officers and veterinarians), pet shop owners and project experts participated to the training.

The trainers provided knowledge on invasive alien species in general, their prevention, monitoring, control, and management and information in particularly on control and management of Red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans). Group discussion, case studies were carried out and field visit was conducted to the pilot area; Falez Park to give information on Red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) and capture of the species were showcased.
