In the scope of “Addressing of Invasive Alien Species Threats in Terrestrial Areas and Inland Waters in Turkey Project” funded under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) between Republic of Turkey and European Union, and implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, the second of the workshops planned to be held in the pilot areas regarding the six target species determined, Workshop on Preparation of Urgent Action Plan (UAP) for Silver Gibel Carp (Carassius gibelio)was held between 15 – 17 February 2022 in Afyonkarahisar.
Approximately 40 participants from relevant General Directorates of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks, 5th Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, officials from stakeholder and relevant Ministries, representatives of Fisheries Research Institute and relevant local governmental institutions, fishermen and anglers, and project experts participated to the workshop.
Within the scope of the workshop, the project experts covered the topics including description of Silver Gibel Carp(Carassius gibelio), pathways and vectors of the species in Turkey, impacts of the species, Seyitler Dam Lake Fish Fauna, examples of control activities from the world, aims and targets of the UAP, and the control methods proposed in the UAP.
